H&S Class Parents

Class parents for grades K thru 4 have the following duties:

• Class Parties - The main responsibility of a class parent is to organize class parties.
  Class parents supply snacks, crafts and games through the use of the class money.  The classroom teacher will discuss with you the time, place and details of each party.
  At the beginning of the school year, designate one class parent to collect and hold the class money.  Copy and distribute the "Class Money Form" as soon as possible.  Please check the money and cash the checks as soon as you receive them.  Call any parents of the children who haven't contributed, asking them to send it in as soon as possible.  Use your discretion if special arrangements need to be made.
   

• Class Trips - Class parents are the first ones asked to accompany classes on field trips or any special events during the school year.  Classroom teachers will provide details.
   

• Hospitality - Class parents are responsible for one Hospitality event during the year.
   

• Class Pictures - Class parents are responsible for the class yearbook page.
   

• Phone Chain - Only in the event of an unscheduled early dismissal.
   

• Gift Policy - It is school policy that there are no collections of money for the purpose of a "class gift" for the holidays, and/or end of year gift to the teacher.  These gifts should be left to the discretion of each individual family.

5th grade class parents do all of the above plus run the hot lunch program which funds the fifth grade activities.  There is also a fifth grade activities committee.  This committee is responsible for planning the class trip, the year end party, a DVD and graduation.   Any 5th grade parent can be a part of the 5th Grade Activities Committee.  As a class parent, unless you choose to be an active member of the 5th Grade Activities Committee, you will not be responsible for the trip or year end party.

Please support your class parents - they work hard for our children throughout the year.  Better yet - volunteer to be a class parent at least once during your children's time at William Mason and get a better appreciation of what they and the teachers do.
